MIRA above the rooftops of Albania

Albania can look forward to a secure future thanks to its new monitoring network

The Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics at the University of Tirana is forging ahead with its project 'Improving radiation monitoring in Albania'. The new ENVINET monitoring network has been installed and the MIRA stations are now reliably monitoring the gamma dose rate in Albania's natural environment.

From a distance, the intelligent monitoring network software NMC operates the eight stations distributed throughout the country, offering the Institute full remote management and status control.

The main strength of the autonomous monitoring stations is their compact design. The stations are all fitted with a mains connection as well as a solar device, making them completely autonomous, even in winter. Naturally, the communication system is wireless (LTE) and fully integrated in the detector housing.

Its brand new monitoring network means that Albania is able to identify nuclear events even more quickly, greatly reducing its response time once again.
